The world constantly pressure children to be ‘standard’. We are expected to act like everyone else, reach milestones at a set pace, and stay within the safe boundaries of ‘normalcy.’ However, today I want to share the story of my son, Hwi, who was once labeled as ‘strange’ and talk about the true value of uniqueness.
- The Hidden Gem Behind the Label “Strange”
As a young child, Hwi was a bit different from his peers. He had a cautiousness beyond his years, sensitive senses, and a level of meticulousness that sometimes seemed excessive. Others looked at him and saw a ‘strange child’. As a mother, it hurt, but I believed in him. I knew he wasn’t strange; he was unique, possessing his own distinct colors. - The Power of Growth Proven by Time
As he grew year by year, those ‘strange’ traits began to transform into powerful strengths:
* Cautiousness – > Became the integrity of a thoughtful child
* Sensitivity & Perfectionism -> Turned into thoroughness that catches every detail.
* Meticulousness -> Evolved into a drive for high-quality results.
The traits that were once criticized for being “different” became the strongest roots of his character. - AI Era: Why “Geeky” Thinking is a Survival Strategy (feat. Hwi’s take on the Tortoise and the Hare)
We now live in an era of co-existence with Artificial Intelligence. Today, your value isn’t measured by how much you know, but by “what kind of questions you ask.” My son’s answers, which once sounded eccentric, have now become creative strategies for the AI era.
Recently, while discussing the fable of The Tortoise and the Hare, son gave me a chillingly brilliant insight. While most say “be like the tortoise,” Hwi’s analysis was completely different:
“Mom, if the rabbit and the tortoise raced in the ocean, the rabbit would have won. The tortoise’s shell is too heavy to swim fast, but the rabbit could have used flippers to go faster. Plus, the rabbit can’t rest in the ocean. Since he can’t breathe underwater, he would die if he stopped. So, the rabbit would have kept going without sleeping and eventually won.”
The ability to use tools (flippers) and understand the urgent motivation for survival-this sharp logic is unique Insight hat AI, which merely predicts the next word, can never replicate. Hwi’s uniqueness is finally shining as the ‘strategy’ the world now demands.
[To be continued…]
In the next post, I will share why Hwi’s habit of “stopping when he doesn’t understand” is actually a superpower for controlling AI, and how my educational philosophy has shifted toward Havruta.
